My favorite thing about that day is hearing students come back years later and say that Olympic Day was their favorite part of middle school. I take a lot of pride in making sure my classroom is a cozy, welcoming and inclusive place so that my students can focus on their learning. This table might be the crown jewel in my room now! I was impressed after having the table constructed and was inspired to add some new stools with the table as well (if you see the pictures they have orange legs!). \r\n\r\nColleagues have remarked to me that my room has an extraordinary amount of inclusive seating, it has always been my goal to provide every student with the best environment to learn in. This project and my standing desk project have really succeeded in helping me achieve that goal and helping my students learn. \r\n\r\nOnly 5 days into the new school year, my first project is beginning. Kids are picking a topic that they are passionate about and making a timeline about the history of that topic. They are already begging to sit at this new table (as well as my other Donor's choose tables and standing desks to work). Because of your kindness, I will be able to start the school year in my new fourth grade classroom with an incredible organizational tool that I know will make a huge difference for my students.\r\n\r\nThis year marks a big transition for me as an educator. I am moving from a seventh-grade learning support classroom to a general education fourth-grade classroom. While I've loved working with middle schoolers—many of whom needed extra academic and social support—I'm incredibly excited to return to the younger grade level where I can help students build strong foundational skills and routines that will serve them for years to come. As I prepare for this shift, having tools like this mailbox system will help me create the kind of structured, supportive environment that students in both settings need to thrive.\r\n\r\nAlthough the mailboxes arrived over the summer and haven't been used yet, I have big plans for how they will be integrated into our daily classroom routine. Each student will have their own individual mailbox slot that will serve as their personal space for daily materials, returned work, notices, and notes. This will immediately help foster a sense of independence and responsibility in my fourth graders.\r\n\r\nOn the very first week of school, students will decorate their own name tags for their mailboxes to make them feel personalized and special. They'll be introduced to the daily routine of checking their mailboxes in the morning for materials like morning work, newsletters, or messages from me. At the end of each day, they'll use them to turn in completed assignments and gather anything they need to take home. This simple, consistent structure will help students build strong organizational habits and reduce stress during transitions.\r\n\r\nI also plan to use the mailboxes for our weekly \"Reflection Friday\" activity. Every Friday, students will receive a short reflection prompt in their mailbox, encouraging them to think about what they've learned, how they felt about their progress, and what goals they want to set for the following week. This will give them the opportunity to develop their self-awareness and take pride in their growth.\r\n\r\nThe mailboxes will also be used for community-building and classroom connection. Students will be able to write and deliver \"Kindness Notes\" to one another, celebrate peers with shout-outs, and even receive small surprises for positive behavior and hard work. I want my students to feel seen, appreciated, and part of a classroom family—and these mailboxes will play a big part in that.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your generous donation. You've given me a tool that will help my students stay organized, feel empowered, and build lifelong habits of responsibility and reflection. I am truly grateful for your support as I begin this exciting new chapter in fourth grade.","fullyFundedDate":1750256192575,"projectUrl":"project/organized-for-success-student-mailboxes/9095640/","projectTitle":"Organized for Success: Student Mailboxes for a Structured Learning Environment","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Calderone","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9581845_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724377982171","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9581845"},{"teacherId":9581845,"projectId":9219665,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to our classroom Kindle Scribe project! Because of your support, my students now have access to an incredibly engaging and versatile piece of technology that is making a real difference in the way they learn and interact with content.\r\n\r\nThe Kindle Scribe has quickly become a favorite tool in our classroom. While many people use technology at home for entertainment or communication, in our classroom, the Kindle Scribe has become an interactive learning hub. Its digital notebook and reading capabilities allow students to annotate text, respond to comprehension questions, practice handwriting and spelling, and even reflect in daily journals—all in one device. \r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most about the Kindle Scribe is the feeling of ownership and independence it gives them. They love being able to write directly on the screen with the stylus, especially during reading and writing activities. One student who is typically hesitant to write by hand has embraced the Scribe's digital notebook feature, completing assignments with more confidence and detail than I've seen from him before. He now volunteers to share his work and has become a classroom leader during our literacy block.\r\n\r\nWe've also used the Kindle Scribe to support our classroom's individualized reading goals. Students can read high-interest eBooks at their own pace, highlight important passages, and take notes directly in the margins—skills that support both comprehension and critical thinking. During independent reading time, students are more focused and motivated because the device feels personal, modern, and interactive. It bridges the gap between traditional learning methods and the digital world they are growing up in.\r\n\r\nThe Kindle Scribe provides a smoother, more accessible option that invites participation and lowers barriers. It's especially rewarding to see students who often shy away from academic tasks now actively engage with their learning—and even ask if they can use the Scribe for fun, creative writing during free time.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making this possible. Your donation didn't just bring a new device into our room—it brought new energy, confidence, and enthusiasm for learning. The impact you've made is already visible and will continue to grow each day we use this incredible tool.","fullyFundedDate":1744032810187,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-learning-with-a-kindle-scribe/9219665/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Learning with a Kindle Scribe","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Calderone","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9581845_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724377982171","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9581845"},{"teacherId":9581845,"projectId":9026151,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of my DonorsChoose project! Thanks to your kindness, our classroom received a variety of Better Than Paper Bulletin Board materials—and the transformation has been incredible.\r\n\r\nAs a seventh-grade learning support teacher, I work with students who often struggle academically and socially. Many of my students function at the second-grade level, and creating a warm, welcoming, and stimulating environment is a vital part of building their confidence and encouraging engagement. The Better Than Paper Bulletin Board materials have allowed me to do just that.\r\n\r\nFrom the moment the materials arrived, my students were full of excitement. They helped unpack the supplies and immediately began sharing ideas about how we could use them to decorate and organize our classroom. Being part of this creative process gave my students a much-needed boost in ownership and pride.\r\n\r\nWe used the materials to create themed bulletin boards for each academic subject. For example, in our reading corner, we made a vibrant \"Book Nook\" wall that features student-chosen vocabulary words, author spotlights, and rotating book recommendations written by the students themselves. In our math zone, we designed an \"Equation Station\" where students display their problem-solving strategies and visual aids for key concepts. The durable, wipe-clean surface of the Better Than Paper background makes it easy to update and personalize these spaces weekly—which keeps students engaged and invested in their learning.\r\n\r\nOne particularly powerful moment came when a student who rarely participates asked if we could display her story on our writing wall. She beamed with pride as we added her work to the display, and since then, other students have followed her lead, eager to share their achievements. These boards have become more than just decoration—they're a celebration of student voice and progress.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we'll continue to use the bulletin boards as interactive learning stations and reflective showcases. Our next project involves creating a \"Growth Garden,\" where students will track their academic and personal growth throughout the semester. Each student will design their own flower with goals and accomplishments, and we'll build a garden that grows with their learning.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping make our classroom a more engaging, encouraging, and inspiring space. In literacy, the Play-Doh has become a hands-on tool for letter recognition and word-building activities. Students roll out the dough to form letters, creating a tactile connection to the alphabet that helps reinforce phonics and spelling concepts. In math, Play-Doh is used to demonstrate shapes, counting, and even simple addition and subtraction. The students mold the dough into various shapes, which reinforces spatial awareness and solidifies their understanding of geometric concepts. Beyond academics, Play-Doh has sparked creativity, allowing students to make their own designs, build stories, and engage in imaginative play. It's a wonderful bridge between structured learning and free expression.\r\n\r\nMy students are using the Play-Doh in several ways across subjects. For example, during a recent lesson on the letter \"B,\" students used Play-Doh to form the letter and then modeled items that begin with \"B,\" such as a \"ball\" or \"banana.\" This tactile experience helped reinforce the letter-sound connection. In math, students created shapes and counted them out to practice their number sense.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the Play-Doh, their faces lit up with excitement. Many of them were eager to dive into the dough and immediately began rolling and shaping it. Their reactions were filled with joy, and it became a popular activity they wanted to do every day.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, the next steps for my students involve continuing to integrate Play-Doh into more complex lessons. We are starting a creative project where students will build 3D shapes and then write a short story based on their creations.
