At some point in our lives, I think everyone wants to learn to play an instrument. So often there are obstacles that make this difficult like finances, time, and resources. Right now, in these unprecedented times, it is so important kids get to experience new and wonderful things. Right now in music class, our use of instruments is limited because of our inability to safely share these resources because we do not have enough. Having half a class set of Ukuleles will help with this. This will give our students the opportunity to not only learn a new instrument as a part of our curriculum but also experience ensemble playing with other instruments.
The Ukulele will open up a world of possibilities for students in our music class. There are so many concepts that can be learned through the ukulele like note reading, chords, and ensemble skills. They will also work on transferable skills like grit, responsibility, and perseverance. Not to mention that financially, there are quality ukuleles that students can purchase at home for a reasonable price if they chose to continue this instrumental journey outside the music room.
