Empowering Educators, Enriching Minds: SEL in Action

I need more training in social emotional learning. I have the will and the passion, but my students and I would benefit with more guidance from experts.

My Project

As a special education teacher, I have many brilliant students who simply need more support in problem-solving, self-regulation, and social interactions. Some have difficulty managing their emotions, staying flexible in their thinking, or understanding social cues. Although I don’t have my own classroom, I support students from TK-5 in various settings in small group, push-in and one-on-one settings. My goal is to not only support my students academically but to also help develop the skills my students need to navigate daily challenges. These skills are important for ALL students, and to better serve my school, I am seeking funding for professional development in Social Emotional Learning (SEL)—specifically in problem-solving, executive function skills, social competencies, and training in the Superflex curriculum.

These trainings will provide me with research-based strategies to help students across all learning levels to strengthen their executive functioning, manage frustration, and interact successfully with peers.

For example, The Superflex curriculum is engaging and accessible for all students, not just those with special needs. It uses fun, relatable characters to teach self-regulation, flexible thinking, and problem-solving in a child-centered way. By implementing this curriculum, I can collaborate with general education teachers to support their students as well. Together we can reinforce SEL skills in the classroom!

Although I would prefer in-person trainings, the online format makes this professional development opportunity possible to attend. Moreover, I will be able to apply what I learn right away! As a long-time educator, most of my training has been around academics and I need more training around social emotional learning. I am determined to gain new strategies to help all learners become more independent, resilient, and socially aware. I am eager to grow as an educator and to bring these valuable tools to the students and teachers I support. Thank you.
