My students are talented, inquisitive, individualistic, competitive and have a zeal for life. I love the energy and spirit of my fourth graders.
My fourth graders are often worried or anxious, are critical of self or others, complain about fairness and hurt feelings, often prefer same-gender friends and need lots of encouragement.
My students need to feel secure and have their social and emotional needs addressed. I want to ensure that the learning in my classroom is active, interactive and child-centered.
Through teaching experience, I have been able to help enrich my fourth graders, social-emotional learning, through literature. I have found several texts that I feel will be engaging and offer an opportunity for social, emotional and class family building.
My Project
An individual needs to believe in themselves and love who they are! Every student needs to have their social-emotional wellbeing intact before their academic potential can be realized.
Literacy can provide my fourth graders the ability to learn important skills, as a whole class, from characters, situations, problems, and solutions in a book.
The texts I have requested will offer up learning opportunities, discussions and connections in the moment and a resource to be revisited, as deemed necessary.
Writing about student thinking will also be an important part of learning. My Fourth graders will be able to create stories, from the main teaching points of the texts, across the literal genres.
