Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Title I School in an urban school district. In our public city elementary school, many scholars are diverse and at risk readers,. Many are also homeless and from low income households. However, they are warm, loving and continually searching for ways to grow and become better each day. I am honored to teach such wonderful children.
I enjoy providing scholars a multitude of experiences to connect the curriculum and enhance their learning while allowing them to be creative and stimulate their curiosity.
My scholars are eager to learn, excel and connect the curriculum in the school library media center. As the school librarian, I am able to reach every student in the school. I have been teaching for 17 years and I take a great deal of pride in my work. I strive to make learning fun and engaging as I have been focusing on transdisciplinary learning to help scholars have authentic and powerful learning experiences.
My Project
Homelessness is an experience, not a label. We are actively fighting for a better future for our kids. The school library media center is seeking a Surface Go to deliver workshops on available public resources to homeless families & parents. This will be used for participating in professional development and online training modules to learn more about working with students experiencing homelessness or trauma. Additionally, by encouraging and teaching support in the households, scholars will have their learning scaffolded by their families and have a pillar of support and encouragement.
The Surface Go will also be used on site in the school library to empower homeless students to complete assignments, seek help, participate in extracurricular work, learning coding and create digitial presentations so that they can become college and career ready.
Additionally, in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology! Thank you for your time, consideration and support. When you support public school children, you are creating a better future!
