Empower Girls With Great Books!

My female students need 18 book titles, including "IraqiGirl: Diary of a Teenage Girl in Iraq" and "Maze Me: Poems for Girls".

I teach English to students who are at-risk of not graduating high school. Many of the female students in my classroom are at-risk for dropping out, making poor relationship choices, and becoming teen mothers.

Because of budget restraints and an all-time high interest in reading, my free reading shelves have been picked over. This is a great problem to have because girls (and boys) are reading more than I've ever seen before. I'd like to provide some new books aimed at teen girls to continue their interest in reading.

I've chosen eighteen of the most current, award-winning, well-reviewed books for teen girls. Most of these books deal with real issues that teen girls face on a daily basis. These books will help girls to think through problems that they are having or could have in the future. Hopefully, these inspirational tales will lead to good decision-making.

With your donation, you will ensure that about thirty teen girls who are currently at-risk of not graduating high school will have the opportunity to continue to read high-interest books that allow for discussion with myself and peers about real-life issues that teen girls face. These books will stay in my classroom after this year and will continue to be offered to girls as part of our free reading program. Interest in reading is at an all-time high and I'd love to keep these girls reading!
