My Students

Our school has a diverse group of kids, from students that live at the Road Home Shelter to students that are refugees that have fled unimaginable hardships.

We have a very fluid population with the refugees but especially with the Road Home Shelter students.

One of the best things about our school is the fact that some of the kids that come from more stable homes mentor and help the kids who have gone through such big, traumatic events. We also have a great, but small group of kids with a more stable background who I think learn so much about compassion and sympathy as they help those around them.

My Project

These books will help us to learn to empathize and sympathize with others who have different challenges, as well as teach us some self calming techniques.

With the added anxiety that comes from being a refugee or homeless, these books will teach skills to help our students succeed.

We have been working as a school on caring and building a community as we work on helping these students that are challenged work on becoming a part of our community. This will give us enough copies that we can have one available in the library for check-out, and some available for teachers to carry to their classrooms.
