Emotional Support Classroom 2024 School Wish List

My Project

Thank you for viewing our page! I am a special education teacher in an urban district. I teach Emotional Support. My students may have up to four periods with me. The snacks, writing essentials, and organizational supplies I choose are for their comfort and organization while they are in the classroom.

The goals for my students are to graduate and pursue a career they enjoy.

The chairs provide comfort but they also simulate an office environment. My students have emotional issues, usually due to severe trauma. The dropout rate is high with students with this disability because they have low adaptive skills. What does this look like? A simple directive can produce an angry response. This is why simulating a work environment teaches students how to adapt to the expectations of employers.

My students have high needs and are in my classroom for up to four hours a day.

This is due to their behavior, ultimately the goal is to have them in regular education classes, but it is not always possible.

The students have behavior goals and we use the data for the students to access the store. They love snacks! The students are able to access the store if they meet their behavior goals. Again, increasing their adaptive skills is imperative for them to be able to function in a work environment.

My goal is to start the year with an organized work area for each student. They have their own tables and the items will help with organization and school work.

Success is the goal every year! Trust me it can be a struggle for my students, but a nurturing, caring, and professional environment can be a great start to a new year. Thank you for taking the time to read our page and consider our needs.
