My Project

I am a beginning teacher, and I am thrilled to use these items to help bring my classroom to life for my students. This project is to help me build my Special Education emotional-behavioral support classroom. I will be using the items in this project to help teach emotional regulation, guide students to independence, and help prepare them for life beyond the classroom. The requested materials will directly support the social-emotional and academic growth of my K-2 students in our Emotional Behavior Support classroom.

Sensory tools, such as weighted lap pads, fidgets, and noise-reducing headphones, will give students accessible ways to self-regulate during moments of heightened emotion, reducing escalations and helping them return to a calm, ready-to-learn state.

A dedicated calming space, furnished with soft seating and visual supports, will offer students a safe, structured area to reset without leaving the classroom community, reinforcing coping skills they can carry into other settings. Updated classroom furniture will create a more flexible, predictable environment that supports smooth transitions and reduces sensory overwhelm for students who are especially sensitive to their surroundings. I will incorporate visual schedules, timers, and interactive learning tools, such as LCD tablets, that meet each student where they are developmentally.

Finally, new books representing diverse characters and social-emotional themes will help students build vocabulary around their feelings and see their own experiences reflected in the classroom. Together, these resources will help me create a consistent, supportive environment where my students can build the emotional regulation and academic skills they need to thrive.
