My Project

As a school psychologist in a PK-4 school, I am always involved in the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic support of all of our students. More and more students need mental health and counseling support and resources are spread thin. My goal is to provide more students with easy-to-access materials and calming tools to help manage emotional and behavioral challenges. I plan to keep the tent in a quiet space in my office for students to utilize when needing a quiet place to settle, regulate, and regroup. The calming/sensory tools, Legos, and STEM activities will be made into ready-to-go bins that can be checked out and borrowed from my office any time a student might need to have one in the classroom for some time for frequent breaks, or when they earn on a behavior chart and can have a fun activity to do that will stimulate their mind and their excitement. The iPad will be loaded with mindfulness and calming apps for when children are reluctant to try other strategies and when electronics can be a beneficial tool. I have such incredible students at this school and I wish to provide every one of them with tools that will support their wellbeing and their learning. When a child is regulated, they are more likely to engage in their learning and retain the information presented to them!
