My Project
This project is not a happy one. Throughout the school year we rehearse the procedures for a school threat, a lockdown. The drills are short. However, it is not unheard of to have an actual lockdown. My students know to take cover in the corner of our classroom. They stash themselves under the countertop and I turn out lights, lock doors, and close curtains. We then sit in a dark, silent room and hope for the best. It is horrible! My students are immigrants and refugees who have past trauma. We do not know what is happening or how long we will be in hiding. A few years ago I happened to have a bag of suckers and it made a difference. Students felt a small comfort from having the sucker. Since then I have had a container of supplies in our hiding corner. The snacks have since expired and need replacing. So I am asking for snacks, water, suckers, and small fidget toys. I hope to never use this emergency kit, but I also want to be prepared.
