My Project

"The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul" (Austin). Today's pre-teens and teens are overwhelmed with and diminished by the consistently harsh voices of social media. At ELMS, we are combatting this technological noise by providing students, faculty, and families with a community garden -- a space without the threats of AI and cell phones. Instead, everyone at ELMS has a chance to feed their inner needs with hands-on experience in the dirt while they nurture the plants and each other under the sun and in the fresh air. This garden is magical and offers respite from school desks and fluorescent lights. Hands from all walks of life come together for one common purpose. Students and families are thrilled to enjoy the harvests of their joint labor. Smiles spread across a diverse group toiling together in harmony.
