I teach second grade in a high-poverty area of Nevada. Technology is not easy to come by for many of my students, but it is something that they get very excited over.
In addition to their excitement, my students are extremely inquisitive about all aspects of their learning. They need to be involved with their texts and physical learning materials. The classroom is small and crowded, so it isn't always easy to model things, so that all of my students can participate. There is an overhead projector, but its capabilities are limited to working with overheads and it doesn't allow me the opportunity to show something immediately to all of my students.
With an ELMO projector, my students' learning environment could change drastically. In order to improve their writing, I will be able to model and address issues I see in student work immediately. Read-alouds will be more interactive, allowing students to see the pages no matter where they sit in the room. I will be able to move around coins and blocks and other math materials, showing all of my students simultaneously what I am asking them to do. Not only will they be able to see things differently, they will also be able to experience a brand new side of technology that many of them don't get a chance to experience.
This ELMO projector will open up a brand new book on learning for my students. Instant gratification for modeling and manipulating materials will be met. My students will have no problems seeing, grasping, and relating to the materials that I have available, because they will multiply under the camera and it will be as if every student has access to the same thing. Your gift will make better learning possible for my students.
