My students are ESOL/ELL receiving free or reduced lunch. This is a Title I school where the demographics are low socioeconomic backgrounds. They come from all over the world. They are an exciting group with mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and boogie to a sweet tune.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.
The Chromebooks, tablets and phonics make a difference in the students' learning process.
The use of technology will be a daily activity in my classroom, especially in Reading.
Using the Chromebooks for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The technology will allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that many of my students don't have pencils. I supply pencils everyday. My students need composition books for writing and Reading. The printer will be used for the writing process where they will be able to publish their work.
