My Project

For the past year, my students have participated in a pilot program designed to teach radio and wireless communications literacy and to pursue their own licenses through the FCC's Amateur Radio Service. As part of this course, my students build, dissect, and troubleshoot circuits using breadboards and microcontroller boards. While we do currently have multimeters and some classroom tools for sharing, our project is aimed at securing durable, quality tools that can live at each of the six classroom student lab station tables.

I believe that access to reasonably high-quality tools and equipment improves student buy-in and enthusiasm, both of which contribute to an effective learning environment.

Though we have a classroom soldering station, only one or two students are currently capable of working with the iron at any given time. Our project seeks to obtain a soldering station for each of our classroom lab tables, as well, so that my students can learn and hone skills that they can use outside of class as they learn to repair electronics circuits and salvage valuable components.
