This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The best part about science class for my students is the hands on experience, being able to manipulate objects to test the laws of physics! My students need these kits so they can learn about and experience electricity!

I teach physics in a low-income, urban high school in Boston.

Of our incoming 9th grade population this year, 87% of them had not passed any of their classes in the 8th grade. Yet despite the many obstacles that my students face, they have made significant gains this year. More than half passed all their classes last term, and are on track to do so again this term. They are learning that they can be successful in school, and working harder to make sure that they do succeed.

My Project

For our upcoming electricity and electrostatics unit, my students need switches, lamps, resistors and batteries so that they can construct their own electric circuits. With these materials, they will have the ability to explore and engage with the content, and learn kinesthetically. It will help make these physics concepts concrete for my students!

Our students learn the best when they are able to experience things hands on for themselves.
