Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I currently teach fourth grade writing in Houston, Texas to bilingual students who are transitioning into an all English classroom and will be expected to write a full multi-paragraph composition in English on the state writing exam in March.

Although I teach writing to all the bilingual students in fourth grade (about 65 students), there are four other teachers teaching fourth grade writing to non-bilingual students. There are simply not enough resources for every classroom.

The resources I am asking to be donated will be of tremendous help to my students. They are in dire need of engaging activities that will help them learn and practice English language arts skills along with writing skills and the writing process. This is the first year all of the subjects are being taught in English to them and the first year of formal instruction they receive in language arts and writing. Many skills, especially in Spanish grammar do not transfer. I have set up a writing workshop after school for students who need help outside the classroom and although this gives me more time to work with my students, my resources are still limited.

Please help my students reach their goal of becoming proficient English readers and writers by providing resources that will help them learn the necessary skills as well as help them prepare for the state writing exam in March. Please hurry! The holidays are steadily approaching and we are running out of time!
