My Project

I have the best group of first graders ever. They enjoy learning and get so excited about the various projects we do. They are a very inquisitive group. They want to find out answers to questions and enjoy doing this through research and experimentation.

Each year my first graders study the life cycles of animals.

One exciting project we do is observe the life cycle of a chicken! I bring eggs from my chicken coop and incubate them in our classroom. However, our incubator went on the blitz last year, so we need a new one so the students this year can enjoy the experience.

Students will do various activities throughout the 21 days to learn about chickens. They will candle the eggs to check for fertility, identify the different types of chickens, identify the basic needs of growing chicks, and learn how to care for them as they grow. This is an experience that most students never have the opportunity enjoy.
