Effectively Organizing Curriculum for Special Needs Students

My Project

I work with an amazing group of middle school students who are excited about learning! They are in a variety of special education programs and have individualized education plans (IEPs). Many are English language learners (ELL) and a large percentage come from impoverished homes. Students frequently do not come to school with the necessary basic school supplies to function within a classroom and often do not have access to technology outside of school. Not only does this put them at a disadvantage academically, but can also cause embarrassment if one's supplies are not up to the quality of their classmates.

Our language arts curriculum is in a 1,000-page workbook, which is unreasonable for students to carry with them.

These bins and hanging file folders will allow me to tear out a unit or story at a time. They will then be stored in the bins for use in the future. It will also allow me to save copies from previous years, as we often run out of books for later-entering students. It will assist me by having a system to quickly locate materials and will ensure that all my students who enter throughout the school year will have immediate access to the curriculum.
