Economics Education Through Lemonade

Help me give my students materials to learn economics: our school will be making lemonade to sell on market days. They will learn how much effort is needed to earn money.

My Project

Our students are considered "disadvantaged," yet most come to school eager for new experiences. A school-wide initiative is Alanui Ohana Alani- a variety of citruses that will be used to make value-added products to teach students skills in financial literacy, economics, and entrepreneurship.

Many of the items in this project are items needed to make lemonade- juice presses, child-friendly knives, and a soda stream maker in order to offer sparkling lemonade as a healthier option than soda.

Other items are things our students can buy in school through the schoolwide positive behavior economy- kala (money) that students earn through the 3 personal standards: show respect, solve problems, and make good decisions. Students use their Kala (school money) to purchase fun items such as snacks, temporary tattoos, and the currant favorite: SLIME!
