Eco-Explorer’s! Learning About the Environment Through Interactive Discovery
Help me give my students hands on learning science materials that will deepen their understanding of the environment and climate fostering a generation of informed and proactive environmental stewards!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Providing my students hands-on science experiences that are highly captivating will greatly enhance their understanding about our world’s climate and environment. With the ability to create engaging lessons it will make learning more approachable for my students with disabilities allowing them to visually see and take part in understanding these complex environmental concepts.
Students with disabilities learn best with interactive and hands on exploration and by integrating solar paper, an eco dome, individual student hydroponics plant systems, and an ant farm into our classroom, it will offer my students an innovative way to learn about our climate and environment.
Items such as solar paper will allow my students to witness solar energy by allowing them to see the way the solar light changes the color of the paper. An eco dome with easily grown plants will enhance the concept of ecosystems and sustainable agriculture in a fun and engaging setting. My students will be able to observe the growth and lifecycle helping them grasp the concepts of plant biology and how environmental conditions directly impact growth. Individual mini hydroponics systems will introduce my students to different types of agriculture sparking curiosity on adapting how our foods are grown and can be sustained. An ant farm offers a unique window into the social structure and environmental impact of these tiny living creatures, highlighting the importance of each species in the ecosystem. Observing the ants as they build tunnels and work together to maintain their colony can teach students valuable lessons about cooperation, resource management, and the delicate balance of natural habitats.
Collectively, these materials empower students with disabilities by providing them opportunities to explore and understand the world around them in an engaging and educational way fostering a deeper connection with the environment and their role within it.
