My Students

Family and Consumer Sciences is about teaching skills for life. My classroom is a place of safety, comfort, learning, and experimenting. The students are allowed a safe place to learn and grow into who they want to be.

Our students are driven, passionate, and have a burning desire to achieve their goals.

They are resilient and strong. Our school is a Title I school in an urban setting. This can create some extra obstacles and hoops, but our students maneuver them with grace and an almost Olympic tenacity. They are grit, refined and defined; they are our future, and I am proud to be their teacher.

My Project

Our students need to learn skills that allow them to ready to enter the workforce. Even if the students do not enter the restaurant industry, they will be able to use these skills every day. These items not only the students to experience hands-on learning, but they also get a simulation of an industrial kitchen.

Making pasta is a science and an art form, learning how to do so correctly gives you a greater appreciation of your food and where it comes from.

When making pasta, the students a place to let it set and dry. With the aluminum pan rack, the students will be able to properly make their pasta and have a place to store it until it is ready. The rack cover allows everything to remain sanitary and not let outside dirt into the pasta. We will also be able to store this rack in a secured area so that no one messes with their projects overnight since it rolls.

The students will be able to use the food prep table to experience a professional kitchen. Students will be able to prepare their ingredients, and dough in a sanitary way. They will be able to have true simulation of a professional kitchen so that they can be prepared for the industry.
