Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our high school is in the middle of Spanish Harlem so about 85% of our students are of Hispanic or African American descent We are in an old building that can only accommodate about 400 students in a school year, which is really small for a high school. My art classroom, for example, is a shared space with the cafeteria.
Because our school is so small, our budget is extremely limited.
We have to share equipment and plan around classrooms that may not have the proper resources to teach in. This school year I am teaching a Digital Media class. We are focusing on learning Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. It has been such a joy teaching these students how to use the very software that they are exposed to each and every day. It's so rewarding to see their faces light up when they figure out how to do some of the awesome things that Ps and Ae have to offer.
I am so lucky to have students who have been patient with me and the state of technology in our classroom, but I need a change!
My Project
This laptop will serve 2 purposes: to run multiple software at once that my other laptop cannot handle and to present lessons while running the software. This laptop will also replace an old laptop that is too old to keep up with all the new software that we are using in class. Currently, I have to switch between two laptops: one for presenting and the other to run the software.
This laptop will also be used for professional development!
I like to go to meetups and professional development, and the previous laptop I received through Donor's Choose is beginning to wear. It slows down and due to a student dropping it last year, it has lost all touchscreen capabilities. This new laptop will be more powerful and just as small, which will be easy to carry around!
