This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are highly motivated learners. Like 50% of the population, many experience math anxiety. I want to create a classroom where my students feel comfortable to make mistakes. Additionally, many students lack prerequisite skills. Using visuals and manipulatives allows students to access grade level content while building their basic knowledge.
My Project
Besides the math anxiety my students face regularly, the anxiety this year will be like never before. My students will be coming back to school after half a year of not being in a school building. Students have already expressed their fear of being in person while COVID is still a major problem in our community. The flexibility of fun seating options has been proven to increase students' achievement in math class (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4842756/).
