This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach 1st and I am a big believer that all adventures starts with being able to read to take you to another place. That all starts with the confidence and steps to learning how to read and discover the world. Watching students discover the world with excitement is the reason I love to teach.

My students are amazing children, eager to learn and please.

They are a bright young group that sometimes need a little extra help and pushing to get them where they need to be. The parents of my class are all very involved, however, most of the parents work and the students go home with a grandparent or aunt or uncle that speak Spanish and may not be able to help with the reading homework or math word problems. Most of my students are bilingual and are truly gifted. There is a wonderful support at school for them to foster their bilingualism while pushing them to grow.

My Project

Each day we use our easel for our morning Second Step meeting (Social emotional learning meeting) and it is used for all of our anchor charts and word work for math, reading, and writing. Being able to have an easel that will not fall and drop materials is huge because students will not be distracted and have to stop to help pick up materials, and our learning goals can be posted for them constantly, only further fostering their learning.

An easel is a key piece of furniture in our classroom that brings the class together.

When we sit in a circle, we sit around the easel so we can read the morning message or write stories together. It helps students to see during whole class learning and shared learning so that ALL students have an opportunity to see, rather that just those in the front or not seeing at all. It gives the opportunity to model so students can learn and develop more effectively.
