Earth Without Art Is Just Eh

My students need art supplies, including modeling clay, foam board, masking tape, wire, paper plates, plaster cloth, and a wire cutter.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The Earth without art is just "eh." That's what we think in our classroom. My kids love to construct art projects connected to their subject of study. What they want: to create an artistic piece in three dimensions. What they need: sculpting materials.

My fourth graders live in a working class and immigrant neighborhood.

Most of them are learning English as a second language, some have special needs, and all of them love to learn. Our Title I school is an important safe haven for my kids, who are surrounded by poverty and gang activity.

My Project

My students learn through project-based learning all year long. That means that instead of just doing worksheets and assignments on paper, they are creating projects to facilitate their learning in areas like science and social studies, all using the tools of art. Our past projects include theatrical performances of original plays, dioramas to create storyboards for a book, an ocean fair with three dimensional sea creatures, and "museum" murals in the classroom. We've been lucky to have materials like foam board and clay to use. When a student politely asks, "May I please have more," they are so excited when I say, "Yes!" However, we are running out of supplies. We are asking for foam board, clay, wire, masking tape, and other items. We will be able to make fantastic sculptures and dioramas for science fairs, social studies plays, and anything else that my kids dream up.

With your generous donation, my students will fill the Earth with art!

There is nothing more exciting than walking into a classroom of kids collaborating on creative projects. Thanks to you, they will be making models of gray whales, dioramas of "Stuart Little," and nuggets for their play about the California Gold Rush. My students and I thank you!
