Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Children are living proof that EVERYONE in the world is a scientist! I teach K-5 science in an urban area in Nevada, working with at-risk kids at a downtown school! This is the first year our Title I school has had a science lab, so every day brings a new opportunity to bring science alive for these wonderful kids.

My kids (all 800 of them!) love science...what kid doesn't? Since this is the first year we've had a lab, and pretty much science in general, our supplies and materials are VERY limited. In addition, we're a Needs Improvement school, so the kids need as much hands-on science and language development as they can get.

I want to give my kids the experiences in science they deserve, as well as get our test scores up...I know we can do it if we had the materials we need! My lab is seriously lacking in anything that has to do with earth science, a MAJOR component in Nevada state standards as well as standardized tests. That is why I have asked for rocks, minerals, fossils, earth models, and several table-top magnifiers.

My students are excited about earth science and their new title as "school geologists". Your generosity would help to keep their enthusiasm going!
