My students love the new squishies in the treasure box. They're also happy that they don't have to keep taking turns to sit in a chair with a bouncy band. Our students' eyes lit up with excitement when they saw your donation especially the magnetic building sticks, pipe cleaner, beads, create-a-chain reaction STEM kit, and insect lore butterfly garden. One of the first projects we did was to make name beads. Students were seen designing and celebrating every success. It was so incredible to watch them take ownership of their learning with such confidence and pride. They proudly dictated the alphabets in their name as they made their bracelets. \r\n\r\nOne particular magical moment was the introduction of the Insect Lore Butterfly Garden. Our class is currently studying insects so your gift arrived at the right time. Students gathered around the habitat asking, \"Are those caterpillars alive?\", \"How many are there?\", \"We are going to take good care of them until they become butterflies\". They check on the caterpillars daily, draw life-cycle pictures using our new life cycle models (that you also graciously donated), and make predictions about when the butterflies will emerge. My students use the new crayons and pencils everyday all day long. Their favorite thing to do in class is color by number papers. They even enjoy reading to and with the plush animals, too. All of these resources were a HIT--especially during Nevada Reading Week! I love the fact that there are three pictures for each letter so it can be changed each day for additional practice without becoming boring to the students. It also allows me to differentiate the center!!!!! The large alphabet beads that we received are a really fun way for my students to practice sounding out words and then spelling the words using beads.
