My Students

At Forsyth Satellite Academy High School, we serve students who are re-dedicated, re-engaged, and re-focused on obtaining their high school education and graduating with a degree. Something like a lack of adequate supplies should not interfere with their hard work and efforts.

We are one of the oldest alternative high schools in New York City.

Our population consists of students who are over-aged and under-credited. They have been required to leave, or have decided on their own to leave, their previous high schools for a number of reasons from poor attendance and behavioral issues to emergent family and legal issues. The main reason, however, is because they have fallen too far behind in their studies and became too old to be able to graduate from a regular high school at their scheduled time.

My Project

As we are not a traditional high school, students do not take the standard New York State Regents Examinations. Instead, they are required to write extensive research papers in each of the core subject areas including: Science, Social Studies, Mathematics and English and, to present their findings in what is called a PBAT (Performance Based Assessment Task). Our school has extremely limited funding. We do our best to meet the needs of our students, but sometimes, we need help. I have been purchasing my own supplies, however, this is becoming a financial hardship. I am requesting paper and toner so my students can complete their requirements.

I have a class of 24 students who will be writing their PBAT papers as part of their graduation requirement.

They must submit at least four drafts, the final paper, the presentation, and any other relevant work. We need paper and toner for our two printers (Lexmark T640 and Lexmark E260dn) so that all of this can be done successfully and in time for the cycle's end. The paper and toner are necessary for the my students’ success in this task, as it will be critical for editing and revision of work.
