My Project

Students learn best when they can experience science. Many students think that soil is a requirement for plants to grow. To disprove this, we will conduct an experiment about plants in order to discover the real ingredients plants need to perform photosynthesis. Hydroponics will play a role in this exploration because it helps the students realize that plants can grow without soil.

With a hydroponics system, our students will be able to compare plants grown in soil with plants grown in water.

Our students will fill the garden reservoirs with water, liquid plant food, and seed pods. They will prune the plants as needed and also adjust the lighting to provide the right amounts of artificial sun needed by the plants. Finally, students will enjoy the thrill of the harvest when their plants produce fruit and it ripens for picking! Each student will receive their own seedling to transfer onto the soil. Some of the flowers from the hydroponics kits will be transferred to the school garden. Watching the gardens grow will give students the chance to see the wonders of nature up close and understand the importance of respecting our environment.
