My Students

I teach in a public fifth grade classroom in Sandy, Utah. I have 26 students, 10 boys and 16 girls. My students are great kids and mainly come from strong families, who value education and the basic family unit. I have taught at this particular school for 37 years, due to the fact of having wonderful families to work with. I do have students who are less fortunate, but love to learn despite their challenges.

My students try hard every day to get good grades.

They want to learn new things and become more responsible so that they are ready for middle school (which happens next year for them). The students are friends and care about each other too. Many of the students have grown up together in Sandy. They have attended school together, and have enjoyed the unity that they feel with each other. Some of the students' parents come in to volunteer in our classroom which increases the community feeling. My students are so eager to learn! I want to offer them many chances to become all that they can be. I want them to be lifetime learners and successful in their lives.

My Project

My students need to use earphones on a daily basis. We are required to have our students participate in at least two different learning programs this year which are online. One of the programs is called ST Math and the other is a reading program called Core 5. These programs are both wonderful in that they let the students learn at their own rate.

The students are all working on different levels, so it is essential that it is quiet in the classroom.

Some of the programs have the students listen to pronunciation of words, passages that are read to them, or directions of how to do certain exercises. We have some earphones that we currently use, but already some of our cheaper earphones have broken so they can't be used any more. Often students will hurry to be the first one to get some decent earphones. It would be so nice to have some new earphones so that all the students have access to some good earphones.
