My Students
I have the privilege of teaching a fantastic group of +20 first graders at a Title I elementary school that acts as a Community Hub, offering wrap around services to support the whole child and their families. We have over 20 different languages/dialects spoken at our school, with families coming from all corners of the world. The vast majority of students (close to 90%) qualify for free or reduced price lunches, therefore we are able to provide every student with a daily breakfast, lunch, and snack. I can't picture myself working at another school, the students are wonderful and the families and community members are extremely supportive.
My Project
These items will help students in their early reading journey as the materials provide ample practice with phonics skills and sight word retention. I will use these workbooks to create independent work stations, giving students daily opportunities to practice the skills they are learning in small group instruction. The sensory tools will also support students' readiness to learn as they use these tools give students a way to release kinetic energy with their hands, freeing up their eyes to remain focus on the instruction.
