This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a Title I school where 100% of my students receive a free breakfast, lunch, and snack. Many of my students are the recipients of food bags on the weekends as well as other resources to meet their needs. Even though they are 5 and 6 - many of my kiddos are faced with challenges beyond what I can ever imagine.
My students come to school ready to work, learn, and grow their brains despite anything else that may be going on in their lives.
My Project
My students need additional early literacy and language development tools. Vocabulary, fluency, order of events, and phonemic/phonological awareness are just a few essential skills that will be practiced with the requested resources.
I'm asking for a Listen, Read & Rhyme with Dr. Seuss that will help support their understanding of vocabulary, build fluency, and sequence of events.
These are specific skills that are essential in the foundation of literacy development. By being able to listen to a fluent reader in the Dr. Seuss books they will better understand vocabulary and what fluent reading sounds like. These rhyming books will also help them understand word families and increase their phonemic and phonological awareness.
Students will use the Story Sequencing Cards to help them understand that events fall in a sequential order in life and in literature. The Magnetic Write & Wipe Mini Boards will be used as students learn to write letters and words during phonics time.
