My Students

Think about your office or workplace. Picture all the important documents, notes, books, and presentations. Now take away all of the brief cases, filing cabinets, manila folders, and shelves. This is the type of environment my students work in every single day!

My inspiring, hard working students all have Autism and attend a special education school public in New York.

They are middle school students, ages 11 to 14, and they are all unique. In my classroom, students achieve greatness every single day. Whether they are solving an addition problem, responding when someone says "hello" in the hall way, or simply looking a classmate in the eye, they are constantly progressing and learning. They teach me compassion, patience, and loyalty.

My Project

Currently, the lack of storage in my room has a severe effect on my student's ability to learn. Papers, folders, and notebooks are strewn across the table-tops. We do the best we can by keeping papers in folders, but this simply is not enough. Books end up on the floor or in cardboard boxes I have recycled from home. Bins would allow for a much cleaner environment, which will foster more effective learning. Additionally, storage units will give students the opportunity to keep track of their own belongings, teaching them life skills.

As they say, "a cluttered desk is a cluttered mind." Provide my students with organizational materials that will help them shed the clutter.
