My Project

These books reflect the diverse lives in the world enriching our classroom with unique perspectives.

In classrooms, it's crucial for students to feel like they belong.

These books reflect their experiences, helping them feel seen and valued, especially if they haven't felt represented before.

"They Both Die at the End," recipient of the Goodreads Choice Award for Young Adult Fiction, serves as a poignant reminder of life's preciousness and the necessity to seize the moment, while also providing a heartwarming queer love story.

"Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You," winner of the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work – Youth/Teens, equips students with vital knowledge to critically analyze issues of race and racism, empowering them to advocate for equity and justice.

"Furia," honored with the International Latino Book Award for Best Young Adult Fiction, celebrates the resilience of young women, inspiring students to pursue their dreams with unwavering determination.

"There There," recipient of the American Book Award, offers a platform for Indigenous voices, exploring the lives of twelve Native characters in Oakland, California.

"The Book Thief," winner of the Sydney Taylor Book Award for Teen Readers, immerses students in the transformative power of storytelling, fostering resilience and shaping perspectives.

"Odd One Out," recognized by the Rainbow Book List for Young Readers, validates LGBTQ+ experiences, promoting acceptance and fostering a sense of belonging.

"All American Boys," recipient of the Coretta Scott King Author Honor, confronts racial injustice and empowers students to advocate for change.

All of these books have a wide array of subjects and perspectives that I would love for students to take in for themselves. I wish for my students to feel more connected, comforted, or aware of experiences they may relate to or have never heard of.
