My Project

Over the past 2 years that I have been over my school's e-sports team, it has been an honor of mine to watch how our program has been a tremendous influence on my students. As part of an inner-city school, the space that I have created within this program is unique in that it has given some of my most introverted and reclusive students an opportunity to open up and create bonds with one another that may not have happened anywhere else. Working together, I have seen them take pride and ownership of the team that has become the top e-sports team in our district. Individually, I have seen each student within the small community they have built within this program blossom into confident individuals who have discovered and grown their own personalities while through the teamwork of gaming learned to properly communicate and develop/improve their social skills, which they will need no matter where life takes them when they graduate.

I am asking for a new Nintendo Switch and joy-con controllers to help accommodate the growth that our program has seen.

In just 2 years our participation has nearly tripled and continues to grow going into our third year. E-sports is more than just an idle past time for my students, it has become an important part of their social lives that is building upon skills that can be difficult to teach in a normal classroom setting, such as teamwork, communication, and problem solving that will not only help them in school now, but even in their future careers. Our e-sports program has also provided an outlet for some of our most reserved students, as well as a team that they have taken great pride in. Your donation will help support the growth of this program.
