Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are incredibly curious! They come from diverse backgrounds and experiences, and all desire to be challenged intellectually. Students here push themselves and each other academically and socially in order to become better global citizens.

Our students are also incredibly deserving!

They not only work hard in school but also outside of school -- caring for a younger sibling, playing sports, volunteering in the community, working at after-school jobs -- so it is very important as their educator that I provide them with the tools they need to be successful!

My Project

Dystopian literature challenges the status quo and always pushes the reader to think deeply and carefully about political and social issues. This genre is one of the most important to teach our students how to think deeply and critically about the ever changing world around them.

I'd love to give my AP English Literature students more choice during our dystopian unit by providing three different options: Butler's The Parable of a Sower, Vonnegut's Player Piano, and Atwood's Oryx & Crake.

Each of these novels has a great deal of literary merit while discussing complex social and political issues like climate change and ethics in science and technology. Thank you for your support and help to give my student access to such important literature!
