This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright, hardworking children with dyslexia. They have active imaginations and like most kids thoroughly enjoy a good book. Often they shy away from books that peak their interest due to text complexity. That's where I come in. Everyday they are rewarded for their hard work with a read aloud of their choice both for their enjoyment and learning. I try to make my class library as versatile as possible to meet all students' interests. Our library is primarily built around their suggestions.

My Project

Currently, I provide read alouds at the close of every lesson to model fluent reading but primarily to allow my students to enjoy cool books of their choosing. Often times their interest are higher than their reading level. Doing read alouds is just 1 way I can make these books available to them as they work to improve their reading skills.

Read alouds are the highlight of every lesson exposing my students to higher vocabulary and varied interests.

As I work from home, I am trying to build a modest temporary home library that my students can pick from for read alouds.
