We can all remember what it was like for us as children to snuggle up with a good book and lose ourselves for hours. After all, what child doesn't enjoy a good story. Now imagine what it's like to hold a book in your hands and know that the only way to enjoy it requires you to maneuver through the maze of letters on the page that your head always seems to shuffle. That's what it's like for our dyslexia students. They have access to books and yet the stories are often still out of reach. While some may achieve a sense of success after reading a book, it usually comes at the expense of their comprehension and enjoyment. The Chromebooks we are asking for will allow our students to be kids again. They will allow them to travel to faraway places and learn about everything their hearts desire without having to rely on the help of others to enjoy a good book. They will also learn to become independent learners by working with assistive technology that will enhance their learning experience throughout their education. This coupled with online individualized instruction will provide our dyslexia students with the accommodations they need and deserve.
