Dyslexia Incentives During COVID-19

My Students

Every day, my students face incredible challenges as they strive to read, spell, and write while navigating through the struggles of having an often-misunderstood learning disability--dyslexia. We tend to become indescribably frustrated because we work so hard and still fall behind our peers. We struggle with accuracy/decoding, fluency, and spelling.

With the right help, we can learn to read—and even to enjoy reading—and with your support we can be anything we want to be.

We are BRIGHT students, but when print is put in front of us everything breaks down. We love school but learning is much harder for us than the average student.

My Project

Reading is hard for my students, yet they come to me each day ready to give it all they have. It really is exhausting for them. They do this with enthusiasm most of the time.

Sometimes, the kids need a little motivation to participate in class and continue the practice at home.

They get so excited when they realize that they are becoming better readers. Small incentives make my students feel special and want to work harder to get into the treasure box for items like stress balls, fidget spinners, etc. They look forward to showing me their reading log from the previous night to get a smelly sticker.
