Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are incredible students that learn to read and write by coding vowels in all syllable types to code/decode words. Dictionaries use these same code marks which facilitate learning dictionary skills for many of our students. As dictionaries are an allowable accommodation for dyslexia students, it's imperative that our dyslexia population master these skills.
My Project
As a dyslexia teacher, it is my privilege to teach dyslexic students to read and write. I work towards making my students independent learners by teaching them valuable skills. Dyslexic students have many strengths but struggle with spelling, word choice and vocabulary. Because of this, one of the most important skills for a dyslexic student to develop is how to properly navigate a dictionary. In my class we spend a considerable amount of time developing their speed in locating words as well as familiarizing ourselves with everything a dictionary has to offer.
