My Title I school believes that every student can reach excellence and it does whatever it takes to reach students where they are and help them feel and become successful. My class is made up of 20 passionate, hardworking, dedicated, and kind first graders who believe in themselves and encourage each other to always try their best. Ten of my 20 students are Level 1 or 2 English language learners who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, or Urdu. They are passionate about literacy and are eager to learn. I feel so lucky to be the teacher of such wonderful, kind, and dedicated first grade students who have a passion to be lifelong learners.
My Project
In my classroom, we are 1-to-1 with iPads. Allowing each student to have a pair of headphones would allow me to incorporate more learning opportunities for each student. Some lessons may require them to watch a video, create a book talk, or respond in writing. Some students can use a program like Raz-Kids to help them learn the English language as they listen to texts at their level. Other students enjoy completing lessons on iReady or going on PebbleGO and conducting research on a topic of interest to them. The possibilities would be endless if each student had a set of headphones.
If each student has a set of headphones that they can use with their iPad, and it would allow me to set up numerous lessons and learning stations to meet each of my students' learning needs.
With each student having their own set of headphones, this will meet the needs of every student in my classroom. My students learning the English language can listen and learn the English language, and my students with disabilities who need things read to them may also receive assistance with directions for a specific task.
Mentor texts will help meets the needs of all my students by keeping our reading mini-lessons engaging and provide deeper-level thinking opportunities for all learners.
