Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a Title 1 school, my students are faced with challenges that no one should ever have to experience. More than 80% of our students are English language learners. In addition, 100% of our students get free or reduced lunch. For most of my students, school is their safe haven, a place where they are free to learn and explore. A place where they are fed, warm, and taken care of.
Despite these challenges, they have an innate desire to learn.
The excitement that I see in my classroom when they are engaged and excited to learn is immeasurable. These kids deserve the best, and that is what I strive to give them every day.
My Project
During our human body unit, students will have the opportunity to watch the ducklings develop their own body systems and eventually hatch and grow.
Using a live feed camera, students will be able to watch the ducklings develop and hatch 24 hours a day.
After hatching, the ducklings will stay in the cage so students can watch them grow in the classroom. They will learn how to take care of the ducklings by changing the bedding, food, and water. This will help nurture a community in our classroom, as well as allow students to observe body systems developing and make the curriculum come to life!
