My Students

My middle school students respond well to humor, but tend to be a bit sleepy in the dark winter mornings; we usually start out the day by joking around together, using our immersion language (German).

My students are a funny group of interested, engaged, loud, antsy, social, Alaskan, bright, and tech-savvy 21st century teenagers.

While our school is probably not one of the most ethnically diverse schools in Anchorage, our students still come from a variety of different economic backgrounds.

My Project

Teaching at an immersion school frequently requires creating your own content area materials, as text books for my units in history class are not available at the appropriate language levels. Therefore, I constantly create new workbooks and the like, pulling information from various sources. A dual screen laptop would make this process much easier and quicker, resulting in more appropriate learning materials for my students.

Better materials help engage the students, and will also make it easier to immerse them not only in the German language, but also in the German culture and history.

Similarly, when teaching or tutoring students via zoom, I often share materials with my students live - having an extra screen would make this a much smoother experience and would result in less teaching time lost.
