Our Desktop Publishing, Yearbook, and Journalism courses will have students of all high school grade levels in the classroom. This will include students of diverse learning needs, from severely and profoundly disabled to gifted students taking advantage of college courses through concurrent enrollment.
We are a high school that serves families from diverse income levels and educational abilities.
The average classroom serves about a 10-20 percent population of diverse learners or students with special needs. Most students have limited access to technology like DSLR cameras and photo editing software. The school and I are trying to provide the students access to diverse forms of technology to enrich their learning and to prepare our students to live in a global environment.
My Project
Students not only in the Desktop Publishing, Yearbook, and Journalism classes, but all students in our school will benefit from this camera. The images and stories the camera will tell through photos in the school newspaper, photos in the yearbook, and photos included in project materials created in desktop publishing will positively affect each and every student in our school. This camera will provide images and stories that the school, especially the students, can read or view with pride.
A DSLR camera allows the students to learn all aspects of graphic publication, photography, and photojournalism.
This cameras will allow students to change settings and lenses to capture the best images for making an impact in their publications. Students will learn about aperture, shutter speed, focal length, and ISO sensitivity. They will also learn about photo composition and editing images. Students will learn how to master photo imaging to tell stories in their publications about their school.
In this world of representing a school and its heritage through visual images, the ability to use a camera, to produce a professional product, and create photojournalistic articles is essential.
