Drumming Up Musical Experiences

Help me give my students an opportunity to experience authentic drumming with a handcrafted djembe drum. This percussion instrument will expose my students to music from various world cultures and help develop an appreciation for beautiful instruments.

My Project

For all my students, music class is an opportunity to experience the rewards of positive teamwork, the responsibility of daily practice, and the life-long results of learning how to push themselves out of their "comfort box" and discover new talents. This is especially important for my students who come from a rural, small school setting.

The musical experiences provided by this classroom resource will help music students connect with different cultures through drumming and to reflect a growth mindset of a world beyond what they already know.

Now, more than ever, we need to engage our students in social-emotional conversations that help them focus on the positive and music is a great way to accomplish that goal. Music can help a child take a stand against the negativity and discouragement that can seep into their day. Music can help a class take a stand for kindness and inclusion into a group. Music can help a school focus on being creative and expressive. Music can help a world see similarities and not just differences.
