Drumming Up Academic Success

Help me give my students a variety of percussion instruments like a Granite Block Set and Vibra Slap for our school bands and music foundations classes.

My Project

I love my band students and how enthusiastic they are to learn. When they come to band class, their eyes light up as they enter my classroom. So many of my students may have never had the chance to play a musical instrument. My school is an equity-focused school centered around the arts and gives students a chance to experience things that they otherwise would not be able to.

These instruments will last for many years to come and benefit thousands of students.

Adding a variety of new percussion instruments like a cabasa, vibraslap, cowbell, jam block, and block set to the basic percussion instruments at my school will give my students new sounds to explore and learn with. Students in the younger grades will also be using these instruments in their music foundations class. They will learn how to play them as well as have a chance to create musical stories with the new sounds they explore. The dice will be used for rhythm games to create rhythms to play on the instruments.

Our arts-centered program is still fairly new, and we are just beginning our second year. We are still in the process of building classroom inventory to use to teach the arts and music.
