Help me give my students a cajon to accompany pieces at singing events and concerts! A cajon is portable so we can use at performances in the community, not just in our auditorium!
I teach vocal techniques which is my freshman girls choir. I also teach Greenwave and Soundwave choirs which are audition based. I teach Music Theory, IB Music and I have a special audition only after school choir called Chamber Ensemble.
My various choirs also compete in Music Performance Assessments within District 18 of the Florida Bandmasters Association.
We have had vocalists win on both the county and state level as well.
This is my second year teaching at Fort Myers High School. I'm honored to continue the traditions that began back in 1911. I have a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting and Composing. I write many songs which also saves us additional money by not having to purchase as much music. This past fall I assisted with the Greenwave Marching Band.
Our choirs have been invited to perform in many community events recently. This includes Daughters of the Revolution Constitutional Celebration, Athletic Games to sing the National Anthem, Food Pantry Annual Fundraisers, local private events and much more.
My Project
Often times music is enhanced with a drum beat or rhythmic element. The cajon is a portable, versatile drum that can provide this support. This instrument would be used to enhance our performances both large and small with its ease of transportation and variety of sounds it can create.
Every concert we sing usually has a piece that requires a percussion accompaniment.
The trouble we have is transporting the various percussion items we need. With a cajon, we would not run into this issue as it can replicate many of the sounds made by other drums, and it is easy to transport and set-up because it does not need additional attachments like a stand.
