Drumming Into Hybrid Learning!

My Students

My students come from an inner-city with very diverse backgrounds. English is not the first language of approximately 40 percent of my students and over 70 percent are categorized as low income. My students have been greatly impacted by social distancing, home quarantine, and remote learning. As we transition to hybrid learning in our district, creating lessons for Physical Education class that take social distancing into consideration can be challenging.

My biggest challenge is to get my students moving in a limited amount of space due to social distancing guidelines.

As we transition to hybrid learning, it can be difficult to adjust to state mandate in regards to social distance rules of 6 feet apart when conducting physics education classes. I need to plan lessons for my students that are engaging, rigorous, and promote health and wellness, while meeting state covid 19 guidelines.

My students have been remote learning for almost 1 year. Not being in school has greatly impacted all of them socially, emotionally, and physically. It’s time for students to get back to being physically active outside of the home.

My Project

These materials will help students transition from remote learning Physical Education classes, to in-person learning. Students in my district have yet to return to in-person learning. As we transition to hybrid learning in March, it's important for me to challenge my students during physical education class, while practicing social distancing guidelines of 6 ft apart. Students are excited to get back to school, see friends, and interact. Fitness drumming is a fun, new activity that will be introduced to our students in order to engage in fun, vigorous, physical activity, while following state health and safety guidelines.
