Drumming for Success!

Help me give my students the yoga balls they will need to do a DrumFit unit. The laundry baskets are an inexpensive way to keep the balls stationary as well as store their sticks in.

My Students

I work at a Title I school. Our entire population qualifies for free lunch and most are economically disadvantaged. There is also a large special education population.

P.E.

fosters an outlet for students to feel some success and expend excess energy. In addition, I integrate other subjects into my P.E. lessons to support overall academic success. Success leads to fewer behavioral issues and increases self-confidence.

Kinesthetic learning taps into the body's procedural memory, which makes learning last a lifetime.

Students are able to make connections from my lessons to things being learned in their classrooms. Some students may feel success in P.E. whereas they struggle in the regular classroom setting.

My Project

Finding innovative ways to encourage students to work out is something I strive for in our P.E. program. Motivated students are less likely to have behavioral issues and they don't realize they are working out.

DrumFit promotes physical literacy and personal fitness for students of all ages.

It is a non-competitive program that allows everyone to get fit together. It also aligns with our state standards.

Unfortunately, I do not have enough funds each year to purchase the equipment needed for DrumFit. I have found that it would be cheaper to purchase comparable equipment elsewhere.

The students will use the drumsticks to beat on the balls. The baskets are to stabilize the balls and for storage.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
